Description

The QiYi Magnetic Clock is, based on the traditional Rubiks clock, which is not produced  anymore.  Both the pins and gears work with magnets, which is an new innovation by QiYi.

The Clock is a two-sided puzzle showing nine clock-like images on each side. The aim of the puzzle is to set all nine clocks to 12 o'clock (straight up) on both sides of the puzzle.

There are four wheels, one at each corner of the puzzle, each allowing the corresponding corner clock to be rotated directly.  The corner clocks, unlike the other clocks, turn on both sides simultaneously.

There are also four pins located between the clocks which span both sides of the puzzle. The state of each Pin (in or out) determines whether the adjacent corner clock turns together with the three other adjacent clocks on the front side or on the back side: thus the configuration of the pins determines which sets of clocks can be turned simultaneously by rotating a suitable wheel.

Worth it if you're willing to put time into clock

Out of the box it is very fast and light, faster and lighter than literally any other clock out there. It'll probably be too uncontrollable for most solvers out of the box. I know it was for me, so I ended up tightening the screws until I was satisfied with the speed.

Also if you're coming from a different clock (shengshou or lingao), you'll find that you need to change your turning style a little to accomodate for the lightness, but this is remedied by doing about a hundred solves on it; the feel isn't too hard to get used to.

Absolutely wonderful

The QiYi Clock is definitely better than its competition when they are compared right out of the box. It is quite fast, and works very well even without setting up (maybe doesn't even need setting up?).

It is necessary to note a few key differences with other clocks. Some may see that 6 turns may come out as 7 turns instead, which does require a little bit of getting used to. It's also worth noting that it may be difficult to see the 12 o'clock on the black side especially in poor lighting conditions. The magnet strength of the pins is also much weaker (compared to my LingAo) and thus makes it much easier to press down on, though this also means that intense shaking WILL move the pins (but they do not fall on their own or whenever I did flips). There have been times where I have touched the pins unintentionally while flipping or picking up the clock, leading them to actually be pushed and thus unexpected moves beginning to happen. Pushing the pins up and down just gives an incredibly satisfying feeling.

Overall, this clock is definitely main worthy and I'd recommend it to everyone. It's great to see more clock hardware finally coming out.

The hardware that we have been waiting for

Straight out of the box, the qiyi clock is extremely smooth and easy to turn, but will still click when doing small turns. I find that the puzzle is very consistent and will only lockup once in a thousand solves, with this making turns feels like a 3x3. And the black and white faces are very clean and make the look of the puzzle very crisp. Overall amazing hardware that tops the older clock such as the Rubik’s and LingAo
