Notation uses number, letters and letter combinations to describe specific turns on a Rubik's Clock. The purpose of notation is to clearly and efficiently describe a move, an algorithm, or a scramble.
- Letters indicate which pins are UP.
- Numbers indicate how far to turn the dial corresponding to the UP pin.
- A plus (+) or minus (−) symbol shows the direction of the turn — clockwise or counterclockwise.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Always turn the dial that corresponds to a pin that is UP.
Pin Notation
Each letter or letter combination represents which pin(s) are UP, with all others DOWN:
- UL = Upper Left Pin is UP
- UR = Upper Right Pin is UP
- BL= Bottom Left Pin is UP
- BR = Bottom Right Pin is UP
Grouped pin positions:
- U = Both top pins (UL & UR) are UP
- R = Both right pins (UR & BR) are UP
- B = Both bottom pins (BL & BR) are UP
- L = Both left pins (UL & BL) are UP
Turn Direction
The plus (+) and minus (−) signs indicate the direction to turn the dial:
- + (Plus) = Turn clockwise
- − (Minus) = Turn counterclockwise
Turn Amount
The number after the letter(s) tells you how far to turn the dial. Each number represents how many "clicks" or "segments" the clock hand should move.
